Daniel and Emily's Library of Human Imagination

The Items:

Swings

We chose swings because it represents humans being able to think and create something really simple but is still enjoyed by people everyday. It also partially filled a human's desire to fly when planes were not created yet. Swings

Stonehenge

Stonehenge was one of the first sundail/calendars. It represents humans using something from nature (the rocks) and making it into a functional and useful calendar. It shows that humans will and can think of all different kinds of ways to create something that was really needed. Picture of Stonehenge

Aircraft

An aircraft allows humans to "fly". We always wanted to imitate birds, ever since we first saw one, so the design of the first plane wasn't random. It copied the structure of a bird, but it still really represents human creativity because the structure had to be small, but still capable of being airborne. First Biplanes

Government

Naturally, humans respond to leadership, just like all other animals do. Government and feudalism played a big part in our history. The idea of one, or maybe a group of leaders would come naturally to a human, but ideas of how to get followers had to be extremely creative. Sometimes, you would have to really keep an open mind, and consider all angles of the situation. Parliament Building

Glasses

Humans probably got the idea of glasses when they realized that water, in certain situations could magnify things. Now that we had the idea, we had to think of a way to make something solid with the same concept as water and maybe even attach it onto our face somehow because that would be much more convenient. Daniel and I thought that the idea of how the frame could hook onto your ears, making the glasses stay in place without holding them up, was a really simple but creative idea. Old Eyeglasses

Basic Hunting Tools

Tools have been incredibly useful to humans. The idea of using rocks and animal teeth to kill a prey might seem like logical now, but it took a long time for the concept to come to mind, back then. When the Homo Erectus finally got the hang of it, and passed the knowledge down, it definitely changed the course of our history. Origional Tools

The Wheel

The wheel is a simple concept, but it actually took humans many tries to get close to the one that we use today on everyday things. When it was developed and the rest of the world was informed about it, many things changed. Since things were easier to move around, and could easily go longer distances, trade bloomed and of course, that boosted the economy up, which led to happier and more patriotic people. Wheel Comic

Dye

We chose dye because although it was first used to colour clothing, it eventually led to ink. Dye, first allowed art to be expressed on clothing and cave walls, but then it developed to "feul" a writing mechanism. Dyes and inks are used everyday in society from writing a grocery list, to making a work of art. Food Colouring

Boats

We picked at boat to be in our library because really broadened travel by making it possible to travel by water. Boats are really effencient because if you had to cross a river, you wouldn't have to look for a fallen log. Instead you could row across in your boat. Boats are also able to move, just by the wind, so many people perferred to sail a boat, versus pushing a load on land. Ancient Galilee Boat

Parachutes

Parachutes ties in with swings and aircraft because they all have a purpose, and it's related to humans wanting to fly and feel weightless. The purpose of a parachute is to allow humans to survive high falls. Parachutes have been reliable and saves us when we feel the need to jump off a plane. They are not only used for human enjoyment, but also to land our machines on planets like mars. History of Parachutes

Religion
Our last one, but definitely not least is the concept of religion. It probably began because humans felt the need of an explination to things that they could not understand. It bloomed because humans felt the need to belong, whether they thought the religion and beliefs made sense or not. Religion has played a huge part in our history, and still continues to do so. Daniel and I think that this really belongs in our library because religion has made definite good and bad changed to history. Different Religion Symbols

The Building

The entrance to our building is a small version of the Parthenon (picture) that the Greeks built, to represent culture and architecture that made a different to how we build and make things now. Our building in in a shape of a 3D trapazoid because that represents lots of random ideas at the begining but eventually lead to less but more achievable and great ideas. On the roof, we have a version of Stonehenge. There is glass elevator that will take you through all three floors and to the roof. On all three floors, we left a big rectange shaped space in the middle that has nothing built on it. From the first floor, you can look up and see the third floor.
On the first level, we have five items on display. The first is a big canvas with all the different religion symbols painted on it. The second item are three boats going around in a narrow stream. The third are parachutes that are launched out of a quiet canon, and left to slowly float down. Fourth, are jars of berry die, ink, and paint. Finally, the fifth is a display of early hunting tools.
On the second floor we hav a display of different kinds of wheels. The second display is a pair of old glasses and a glass of water beside it, so you can compare the two. The third item is three mini versions of biplanes hanging from the ceiling. The last display are voting stones and a crown to represent government.
There are also very long swings hanging from the ceiling, down to the second floor. On top of the roof, of course is Stonehenge.

I looked through everyone's library of imagination, and I think that there are some very creative items and buildings. There are three that I have picked because I feel they really show human creativity and also changed civilization. The first item I picked is the newspaper. It allows people all over the world to access information and news about what’s going on around them. Newspapers play an important role in politics because people with access to them can read and track what the politicians are doing, and it even helps advertise, which boosts up the economy. I also think that the scuba tank is very important and shows the peak of human creativity. One would have to think not only outside the box, but almost insanely to even begin to think about keeping oxygen in a tank, so humans can breathe underwater. Now, that people and scientists had access to the underwater world, it opened up many more possibilities to us. The x-ray machines is my last choice, but one of the most changing inventions because it let scientists and doctors, study and learn about the human body without actually cutting the person open. X-rays are used so often, now, that they are often taken for granted. Have you ever had an x-ray before? Think of what it would be like if there wasn’t such a thing as an x-ray, and doctors had to cut you open, every time they had to examine inside your body. These three items changed and evolved humans, but also shows how capable we are of thinking outside the box. Without these three items, our world would definitely be a whole different place.
